Medical: Gross Anatomy – Visible Human Project

The Visible Human Project

The Visible Human Project ® is an outgrowth of the NLM’s 1986 Long-Range Plan. It is the creation of complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the normal male and female human bodies. Acquisition of transverse CT, MR and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers has been completed. The male was sectioned at one millimeter intervals, the female at one-third of a millimeter intervals. Good reference examples of using the visible human datasets:Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

The cross-sectional images, MRI’s and CT’s from the Visible Human Project have been specifically selected for integration into the Structure of the Human Body curriculum at the Stritch School of Medicine. The lessons emphasize the relationships of important structures in each region studied and are designed for use during both scheduled settings (i.e., lectures, small group discussions, labs) and self-study.

Chinese Visible Human Projects

The Chinese Visible Human Datasets appear to encompass 10 specimens with better visualization. But am unsure at this time if one can acquire the rights to use for educational purposes.
