SUMMIT
Conducts research in next generation education technologies and in their assessment. Current projects include: integrating high bandwidth medical education applications €“ €“stereo images of anatomy, for example–into the curriculum, assessing the role of haptics in surgical education, and collaborative learning with the interactive simulated patient.
As the information age expands the realm of medical knowledge, it becomes essential to deliver new educational content in efficient, intuitive and logical ways. The SUMMIT team uses solid instructional design in creating new learning systems to deliver content. We have developed materials for national and international curricula. We use these content systems to deliver our visualizations and simulations.
When creating your own medical instruction, I would like to suggest that you consider prebuilt anatomical models. These vendors have extremely reasonable prices for anatomical models in 3D Studio and Maya, among others.

The Visible Human Project ® is an outgrowth of the NLM’s 1986 Long-Range Plan. It is the creation of complete, anatomically detailed, three-dimensional representations of the normal male and female human bodies. Acquisition of transverse CT, MR and cryosection images of representative male and female cadavers has been completed. The male was sectioned at one millimeter intervals, the female at one-third of a millimeter intervals. Good reference examples of using the visible human datasets:Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine
The cross-sectional images, MRI’s and CT’s from the Visible Human Project have been specifically selected for integration into the Structure of the Human Body curriculum at the Stritch School of Medicine. The lessons emphasize the relationships of important structures in each region studied and are designed for use during both scheduled settings (i.e., lectures, small group discussions, labs) and self-study.
Chinese Visible Human Projects
The Chinese Visible Human Datasets appear to encompass 10 specimens with better visualization. But am unsure at this time if one can acquire the rights to use for educational purposes.
